EOC WEEK 6: ROCKY FORD

Rocky ford should make their business growth back to the way it was by sending out the 3 step process that Tylenol did in their 1982 scare.

1. Recall on all of their fruit in stores so people could stop getting sick from their melons.
2. make sure all their fruit is grown and not tampered with so  healthier more organic way of growing their fruit.
3. i believe they need to make a apology statement to all hey made sick and to those who may have died from the incident.

the way the company can do  this is promise testing on what they have done with their melons and see what may have went on with the company and testing. the melon company can make it so that the they advertise and rebuild the company in a whole new light.

BOC: Largest Retailer

The top retailers in the country according to stores.org would go in this order.
  1. Wal Mart
  2. Kroger
  3. Target
Walmart is the largest retailer in America and worldwide.  Walmart is known to have 10,800 stores under 69 banners in 27 countries and e-commerce websites in 10 countries. They have a employment rate of 2.2 million people worldwide. Walmart operates in countries such as Chile, Brazil, Mexico, Japan, India, and United Kingdom. The story behind Walmart success is knowing whos there target demographic and what customers buy from their store selections. Kroger is the second chain nd it owns different companies such as Smiths, Vons, Food 4 less, Foods Co, Willow, City Market, and Bakers. the company has expanded to social media by building a app where you can locate some of their products and what stores are near you. they have a organic food group, a charity group. In 1883, Barney Kroger invested his life savings of $372 to open a grocery store at 66 Pearl Street in downtown Cincinnati. The son of a merchant, he ran his business with a simple motto: “Be particular. Never sell anything you would not want yourself.” the stores company has expanded now to 300 million different stores across the nation.

week 8 BOC: Subliminal Advertising

The burger king's new and approved chicken sandwich being bigger and it will taste better. However this ad is displaying a girl with a wide open mouth and the ad says it will blow your mind away.this can seem to refer to a sexual thought to one's mind. this ad maybe targeted to men because of the hidden message. The gasoline company Shell Oil, eager to find the reason behind their decade long slump, they tried everything from: psychographic memory triggers, dream therapy, tangible manifestation exercises, they even asked customers to mold a figure out of clay expressing their feelings towards the company. Nothing worked! "All the techniques…— they’re all legitimate tools for arriving at consumer insight,’ he says. ‘But they only operate on the surface level.’ To craft a more potent appeal for its brand of gasoline, Oeschle concluded, Shell would have to go deeper — much deeper.” So they decided to call in Hal Goldberg, a consumer researcher who specializes in focus groups conducted under hypnosis. Hal took customers all the way back to when they were infants and then he said “Tell me about your first experience in a gas station.” All of the customers’ responses were similar, tying them to their family. “It dawned on us, as a result of this process, that we’d better figure out how to favorably impact people from an early age,” he says. Many companies use this form and many other forms of subliminal advertising, in order to persuade their customers to keep being their products. What is subliminal advertising you may ask? Well subliminal advertising is a Promotional messages the recipient is not aware of, such as those played at very low volume or flashed on a screen for less than a second. Its effectiveness is not supported by scientific evidence, and its use is considered a deceptive business practice in some jurisdictions.” I am not too sure what to think about this method that businesses use to capture the attention from customers. It is both good and bad in certain ways. It is good because businesses are able to find out what it is that its customers want, need, and expect from them, but on the other hand it is bad because it “forces” you to purchase from a brand without you even knowing why you felt you needed to.

WEEK 6 BOC; TYLENOL SCARE 1982

September  29, 1982, seven people who took cyanide-laced Tylenol in Chicago and four suburbs died. That triggered a national scare that prompted an untold number of people to throw medicine away and stores nationwide to pull Tylenol from their shelves.
The medicine scare caused numerous thoughts of terrorists attacks and ideas of who would want to hurt the company. The convict was never found and this mystery is still unsolved.

"Every time you open a bottle or package (of medicine, food or drink) that has tamper evidence features, a band around the lid or an interior seal, it is because of the Tylenol case," said Pan Demetrakakes, executive editor of Food & Drug Packaging magazine.

The company did a 31 million bottle recall and lost 100 million dollars because they wanted to make sure that  customer safety  came first. they soon had t find new ways to enter back in the market. one way was re introducing the product  containing a triple-seal tamper resistant packaging. It became the first company to comply with the Food and Drug Administration mandate of tamper-resistant packaging.  They promoted caplets, which are more resistant to tampering. To recover loss stock from the crisis, Johnson & Johnson made a new pricing program that gave consumers up to 25% off the purchase of the product. They also offered a 2.50 off coupon to gain people trust and show that they were a and new company.

“James Burke, the company's chairman, was widely admired for his leadership in the decision to pull Tylenol capsules off the market, and for his forthrightness in dealing with the media. In a news conference only a month and a half after the tragedy, he gave a full chronology of what the company had done. "He looked in complete control," said Tortorella.”

EOC WEEK 3: ROLLING STONE

Rolling stone magazine is based off popular culture but their articles can be seen as risky and they’re infamous for their cover images. SO, how did this magazine get its start in the world and what has it become today. Rolling stone is a magazine published every 2 weeks to keep up with the current pop culture news. The still current editor and chief Jann Wenner founded the magazine in San Francisco. During the 1990s, the magazine changed its format to appeal to a younger readership interested in youth-oriented television shows, film actors, and popular music. This led to criticism that the magazine was emphasizing style over substance.
In recent years, the magazine has resumed its traditional mix of content, including in-depth political stories. It also has expanded content to include acclaimed coverage of financial and banking issues. As a result, the magazine has seen its circulation increase and its reporters invited as experts to network television programs of note. The first issue was November 9th 1967. The cover star of this issue was Jimi Hendrix. This began a lifestyle for the magazine and soon it was growing bigger over night. The current issue of rolling stone you can see features the bomber of Boston and many people grew into a offense over this. Rolling stone seems to pride itself in controversial stories that will give them a shock factor opposed to other pop culture magazines. I see rolling stone dying down in the near future because it seems technology has been the new thing that everyone must have. Their magazine is still up and running but they are just not up to their full potential when it comes to technology.

EOC: John Varvatos

Strengths of John Varvatos would begin with his men’s line, which targets a certain demographic of the male. The target market would be the mid 20’s to early 30’s kind of guy that want to dress more sophisticated and young. He does this by targeting them through digital start-ups and establishing brick and mortar operations in high priced places where people of that age range can afford his clothing. He has a influence in the male fashion community as well as fashion community. He has collaborated with different companies such as converse and express.
John Varvatos seems to have only a few weaknesses, he doesn’t have too much of a collection on set trends where sometimes the market can be. Another weakness that he may have is that his brand is to common to where anyone can produce a plain cotton tee from Walmart or Target. He may struggle  in with making sure his brand of common staples will be able to compete with other brands with their jeans and denim as well.
He can do the young male market for his jean collection or he can expand to more of a sophisticated woman's jean line. the line could consist of his common staples of denim jeans and plain tees. However this would be aimed and targeted to  woman who dress more simpler and want high brand name besides the GAP.
his threats would be other premium denim companies moving in on the target he is missing from his lines. Diesel, Express, and Levis all target their common simple brand to more of a demographic who is willing to buy it from them. John Varvatos should want to have consideration into moving in towards these target demographics.
This is my SWOT analysis on the great John Varvatos.

EOC WEEK 1: How to Make It in America

Last Class we watched the HBO series, Made in America. This show contained two friends who were tying to make their business dreams come true. In the series we saw them struggle to come up with money to pay back a loan shark and then we found out that they wanted to invest in denim line. We have to discuss the wrong and the right ways they went about doing their business,

The things that they done right in the series made in America was finding their new product to invest in.
They found money to help  out their business and to get it started. They have a general idea of what their business is based upon. They have hope and confidence in their line.

The things they done wrong in that episode was splurge of the moment denim idea.
They borrowed money from a untrusted loan shark. They didn't have much of a plan to where they wanted their brand to go, demographic , financial, and marketing. Lastly they didn't have a name for their line as well.
These are a few of the things that could make the company succeeded and fail.

MY VOICE

My Name is Autumn Mae. I am A girl with big dreams and even bigger at becoming a go-getter. I have worked on 5 fashion shows and 4 photo-shoots. I have worked hard with my organization in involving Vegas in the fashion world. I believe in Fashion as an escape from everyone and everything. It is a way of expressing yourself through art but art in clothing. I created the idea fro pretty rich dolls because I wanted it to be for woman who want to be glamorous but with a edge
The main concept behind the clothing line is to have all those ladies who are hard working and badass not be afraid t show it. Pretty rich dolls is just one of the many ways I am for when it comes to my style. I think style should be different and never consistent. When people get stuck onto their style they forget that there is so much in this world besides their point of view. I am  hoping I will change people’s ideas with that. I want to brig a different view to the fashion world. The view would be there is no right or wrong to style. Style I different among all of us. Pretty Rich dolls would be my first clothing line where that would happen. My second would be my girly vintage themed line Florals on my skirt. This would consist of more of feminine feel of fashion. I kind of call it coffee house fashion.  I hope to achieve all of tis in my successful dreams of a boutique and coffee café where people can feel comfortable being chic, feminine, hard edged, and or just whatever style they aim for. Like Walt Disney said dreams do come true.  I shall make mine come true.
